Kedjo

As a kid, growing up in the West Dallas, Texas projects, with a mother, whom Kedjo describes as the female Sam Cooke, music has always been a part of his life. But it was boxing that first captured his heart at the tender age of 7. His desire to pursue music first began when his all time favorite group, New Edition hit the scene in 1983, and he was torn between it and the sport he loved so much. Entering and winning various contests in the neighborhood and forming groups with childhood friends, his passion for music began to grow even more, while still continuing boxing and becoming a two time Golden Gloves and Jr Olympic Champion with a chance to train with the US boxing team. Torn between which to pursue, a severe wrist injury suddenly ended his boxing dreams. That is when his pursuit of music truly began. In 1993, an opportunity arrived for Kedjo to pack up and move to Los Angeles, CA. He joined his native Dallas friends, where they were signed to the then hottest label around, Death Row Records and formed the trio, Rhythm&Knowledge. Working with label mates such as Dr Dre, Snoop, The Dogg Pound, and many others, the group landed a song on the movie soundtrack, ‘Above The Rim’(song titled ‘U Bring Da Dog Out’). The group split in ‘95, but still kept a very close relationship, while venturing into solo careers. From there, Kedjo formed a brotherhood with top LA DJ and producer, DJ Battlecat, where they were featured on the Snoop Dogg movie soundtrack ‘Bones’(song titled’ This Is My Life’). Word had gotten back to Kedjo that the King Of Pop himself, Michael Jackson, was even a fan of the song. Kedjo has worked with such artists as Dr Dre, Snoop, Tyrese, Raphael Saadiq, DJ Quik, DJ Battlecat, and Warryn Campbell. His influences are New Edition, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Kedjo’s vocal tones are always compared to the great 1st tenors of the past and present. It is said that his sound soothes the soul and brings good news. When asked what music means to him, Kedjo simply replied, “Music is the healing force of the world." Take a musical journey of mind, body, and soul healing with Kedjo. Enjoy the ride!!
